BRING RESOLUTION IN HOUSE AND REMOVE IGP
UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardane yesterday urged the government to bring in a resolution immediately in Parliament and remove the IGP.
He told Parliament that the IGP was appointed by Parliament and that a resolution should be adopted in the House to remove him immediately.
“The defence minister has no powers to remove the IGP. The Defence Secretary has been removed. There is an acting IGP in the country and it is a serious situation,” he said.
The MP said the government should reveal whether steps would be taken to extend the emergency situation in the country.
Referring to the Sharia University in Batticaloa, he said it should be taken under the purview of the Higher Education regardless its ownership.
He said any institute should adhere to the country’s Constitution and that any institute could not to conduct courses in any other language other than Sinhalese, tamil and English.
