Court wants DNA report from blood sample

WILL HELP IDENTIFY THE SHANGRI-LA BOMBERS

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayak­e yesterday allowed the prosecutio­n to obtain a DNA report using a blood sample obtained from Zahran Hashmi’s daughter for the investigat­ors to confirm the identity of the Shangri-la Hotel suicide bomber.

The CID also informed the Court that two suicide bombers who blasted themselves at the Shangri-la Hotel had stayed at houses in Templers Road, Mount Lavinia and Kollupitiy­a prior to the attack.

The prosecutio­n has also recovered some clothes from the hotel room in which the suicide bombers checked in and those were ordered to be sent for further examinatio­n. The prosecutio­n had told the court that some Rs.12 million worth of jewelery and gold recovered from the places those suicide bombers resided had been sent to the government analyst for his report prior to confiscati­ng them.

The prosecutio­n said the inquiries on the 36 who died at the Shangri-la hotel were continuing.
