- BY SRINATH PRASANNA JAYASURIYA

The suicide bomb team who were involved in the attacks on Easter Sunday had taken their oaths before their leader Mohammed Hashim Mohammed Zaharan in a room on the fifth floor of a shopping complex in Kollupitiya as information received, a senior police officer said yesterday (10).

Accommodation had been provided for these suicide bombers and their families in a three bedroom apartment paying a rent of Rs 140,000 for two months, it was further revealed.

These suicide bombers had taken their oaths a day before the Easter

Sunday attacks.

Abdul Cader Fathima Sadia (24) wife of Zaharan who was treated for injuries sustained in the bomb explosion at a house in Sainthamaruthu has revealed this information when she was under a comprehensive interrogation. Her younger daughter also received treatment at the Ampara Hospital for her injuries.

She has been handed over to the CID for further investigations, according to the police sources.

On the night of April 18, Zaharan had told her after dinner at the building in Kollupitiya that he was going to be Jihad. He had also asked her to observe a period of sorrow for four months after his death.

However, she had asked him to send her to her parental home in Kekunagolla in Narammala but Zahran had not responded to her request. She has asked for a divorce on several occasions but he had not consented.

She further told that on Easter Sunday they were at the house in Sainthamaruthu and in the morning Zahran’s sister (Rilwan’s wife) had told her that their team has committed suicide and Zahran’s mother has told her not to be afraid as they would look after them. Then she has worn a white cloth and a black dress over as she was instructed.

Sara and Ferosa’s husbands were also killed in the suicide bomb explosions and they told that they were going to their native places and requested her not be sad, she said.

She had worn the Burqa as her husband wanted her to wear it. He had told her Burqa is good for her safety.

He had often phoned and asked her whether she was wearing the Burqa, she has told the police.
