Wants maximum punishments on officials for not ensuring public safety
Global Sri Lankan Forum, an organization of Sri Lankans domiciled in different parts of the world, requested the government to ban Wahabi teaching, among other activities in responding to the present security crisis confronting the country.
Issuing a statement, the organization asked the government to ensure that proper investigations were conducted and the maximum punishment imposed on the ex-defense Secretary, the IGP and other related officers for working irresponsibly and not ensuring public security.
We, the Global Sri Lankan Forum- would like to share the sorrow and sympathy with all Sri Lankans at this fateful hour in our Motherland
We believe too much emphasis had been given to the so called “reconciliation” over the national security
This will send out a clear message to government officials that they should always act responsibly and that neglect of duty would lead to serious consequences.
It also asked the government to deport all foreign refugees who are presently in Sri Lanka from other countries as soon as possible while banning Wahabi teachings, education and other activities and called for the enactment of new laws to curb extremism.
It also asked for ensuring protection to historic Buddhist sites, specifically in the North and the East and to prohibit Sharia law and related institutions, courts etc.
The other recommendations include immediately commencing criminal investigation against Muslim parliamentarians who help to propagate extremism and terrorism in Sri Lanka, enacting laws to monitor the inflow of financial grants to all religious institutions.
“We, the Global Sri Lankan Forum- would like to share the sorrow and sympathy with all Sri Lankans at this fateful hour in our Motherland.
It is unfortunate that we, as a nation could not save the innocent lives of our fellow Sri Lankans and foreigners who were victims of the carnage. The Global Sri Lankan Forum – Executive Committee had highlighted to the top senior members of the Sri Lankan administration about the looming extremism coupled with LTTE Tamil terrorism by the correspondence we exchanged. We believe too much emphasis had been given to the so called “reconciliation” over the national security and too many favours had been extended to the minority politicians for the sake of six parliament votes which had to be re-paid by the high price of nearly 300 lives.
