The owners of two cabs bearing fake registration and engine numbers were taken into custody in a raid carried out by the Arachchikattuwa Police.

One of the suspects was a leading vehicle dealer of Arachchikattuwa and Chilaw areas. He has been using two Mitsubishi L-200 cabs bearing the same registered number 51-4406 for sometime.

In further investigation, police has found that the registered numbers and the engine numbers of the two vehicles are different from the numbers appearing in the documents issued by the Motor Traffic Department.

According to the information received the vehicle of the Arachchikattuwa suspect is said to be a vehicle used by a former cabinet minister in the Puttalam District. The police were also investigating to find whether the vehicle had been used for any unlawful purposes.

A police team including OIC IP Anuradha Herath and traffic OIC SI Samarathunga is further investigating under the guidance of Puttalam DIG Champika Siriwardena, chilaw SP Suramjith Kumarapeli and ASP Ariya Keerthi Bandara.
