Charith, Omaya steal the lime­light

The Milo Colours Schools Award Cer­e­mony or­ga­nized by the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Coun­cil with the bless­ings of the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion and spon­sored by Nes­tle Lanka PLC held at the BMICH re­cently saw Charith Asalanka of Rich­mond Col­lege Galle and Omaya Udayangi of We­li­mada Cen­tral steal the lime­light by be­ing ad­judged the most out­stand­ing sports­man and sportswoma­n for the year 2016.

Charith and Omaya were rec­og­nized for their tire­less and out­stand­ing per­for­mances in the re­spec­tive sports of cricket and ath­let­ics. Apart from their per­for­mance in the lo­cal cir­cuit the duo rep­re­sented the coun­try in var­i­ous in­ter­na­tional events dur­ing

the that year.

Mean­while Akalanka Peiris of St. Peter’s Bam­bal­api­tiya and Ra­mindu Sa­ma­rakoon of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo were ad­judged the emerg­ing sports­man and sportswoma­n for the year 2016. In fact Akalanka also bagged the same award for the year 2017 too.

The win­ners were se­lected from over 500 re­cip­i­ents from the 31 sports that came un­der the cri­te­ria of the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Coun­cil. vi­jayakala Ma­hesh­waran, Deputy Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion graced the oc­ca­sion as the chief guest with Ban­dula Egodage, Vice Pres­i­dent Cor­po­rate Af­fairs and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Nes­tle Lanka PLC as the guest of honour.
