OPENING OF 'JUNCTION'

-

In the midst of gloom, I thought it would cheer me up to attend the opening of ‘Junction' the newest art gallery in town. The young man behind it is Ieuan Weinman, who proved the old adage true that the place of one's roots and heritage has a hold on one's heart. The son of Sarla and Geoff Weinman who emigrated to Australia, he returned here, spent some time painting in various parts of the country and decided to open a gallery to promote other artists too. Chantal de Saram, following in the footstep of her mother, the late Siva Obeysekera the pioneer in promoting our arts and crafts has given Ieuan space at Lakpahana for the gallery. He has a wide diversity of style in his art ranging from still life, portraits, landscapes and combination of painting with collage transferring figures of people at the various junctions on canvas.

Among lovers of art present were Anila Bandaranaike, Ravi Deraniyagalla, Viran Corea, Rohan de Soysa, Arun Dias Bandaranaike and several others, Chantal provided a lavish supply of canapes for the guests.
