PM visits strife torn areas in NWP
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who visited Kuliyapitiya, which was marred by violence said the government would not allow anyone to stop the celebration of Vesak.
He said government will take every step to ensure that Vesak is celebrated as usual and said the security forces and the police have been given the necessary powers to ensure normalcy.
“The decision to give full powers to the forces was decided after consulting the Cabinet, the Service Chiefs and the Police Chief,” he said and requested the people to cooperate with the security forces.
The Prime Minister visited the Hettipola Mosque and Kuliyapitiya and Panduwasnuwara.
Ministers Kabir Hashim, Rauff Hakeem, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, State Ministers J. C Alawathuwala and Faizal Cassim accompanied the Prime Minister.
