Fifteen Egyptian Madrasas teachers have left SL

Fifteen Egyptian nationals who were teaching at various Madrasas have left the country citing security reasons, an official said on Tuesday.

The government increased vigilance on Islamic clerics who teach at Madrasas while staying in the country on tourist visas. An official of the Department of the Muslim Religious Affairs said 15 Egyptian teachers left the country on Monday citing that the security situation of the country was not favourable for their stay.

Earlier, there were reports that about 880 such Islamic clerics or teachers working at Madrasas in violation of their visas. The government has also decided to introduce fresh legislatio­n to regulate the activities of Madrasas.
