Large stock of beedi leaves recovered in Manathivu Lagoon

A large stock of Beedi leaves that had been smuggled into the country and hidden in the mangroves in Manathivu Lagoon in Puttalam had been seized by Wanathawilluwa Police.

The Police said that they recovered 1,060 kilograms of Beedi leaves that had been packed in 33 fertilizer bags.

Investigations revealed that it had been smuggled from India by sea and hidden in the lagoon to be transported to another area.

However, the curfew in force in the area had prevented it.

A Police team under SI Ranbanda is conducting investigations on the instructions of OIC Wanathawilluwa Police IP Udaya Pathiratne and SP Chandrasena Jayakodi to arrest the suspects.
