No-faith motion against Bathiudeen submitted to Speaker

-

Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, who met President Maithripala Sirisena, has said that China would soon take steps to assist Sri Lanka’s strategic capabilities to combat international terrorism.

He told Daily Mirror that it was anyway a victory for them whether they win or defeat the motion.

“If this motion gets defeated, the politicians’ double-standard would be exposed. We can see the stance of those MPS who are talking against extremism, terrorism.” the MP said.

“Although 66 MPS have confirmed their support on the motion, the signatures of MPS Prasanna Ranatunga and Sanath Nishantha are not included in the list because they are currently overseas. However, they have sent their signatures via fax which the Parliament Secretarygeneral refused to accept claiming that they were not official.

When asked on what grounds the motion is brought against Minister Bathiudeen, he said the police had been unable to carry out a probe against him despite clear-cut evidence that he had maintained links with the terrorist group.
