Man transporting illegal intoxicant arrested

A senior official of the Welipenna Police said they had organised the search operations to check suspicious vehicles in view of the prevailing security situation

A large stock of illegal intoxicant was seized and a suspect arrested during a cordoned off and search operation in the Welipenna Town. Police said the suspect was transporting the stock of contraband by a trishaw when the police checked.

Investigations revealed that the suspect from Meegahathenna was an accused in a murder case pending in High Court and that he was out on bail.

A senior official of the Welipenna Police said they had organised the search operations to check suspicious vehicles in view of the prevailing security situation.

The suspect was to be produced before Matugama Magistrate.
