CTSU not in favour of holding 2nd term tests in schools

- KUSAL CHAMATH

Ceylon Teachers Service Union has expressed concern about making arrangements for the second term tests in schools while the security situation in the country prevented the most of the schools in the country from commencing the academic activities for the second term.

General Secretary of the CTSU said the arrangements were already underway at provincial and zonal levels to hold the term tests as usual while the academic activities in schools had been crippled for about one month.

He pointed out that the date of commencement of the academic activities as usual was still uncertain although the authorities were making arrangements for the term test which would be a colossal waste of funds.

The trade union leader was of the opinion that the teachers would not be able to cover the syllabi for the second term within a short time and that they would be compelled to cover the number of days lost from the third term.

The CTSU requested the authorities not to hold the term tests as usual at the end of the term creating hardship to the teachers and the students as well.

It pointed out that the time that would be wasted on term tests should be used to cover the days that were lost.
