Windies Cricket Academy wins Platinum Championsh­ip Trophy in Malaysia

The U-16 cricket team of Windies Cricket Academy in Matale led by Abdul Rahaman ended their recent tour of Malaysia successful­ly.

They won the ‘Platinum Championsh­ip trophy’ when they beat Centre of Excellence Cricket Academy Kandy (SL) by 44 runs in the final of the 9th annual Malaysian T 20 cricket tournament 2019 played at Amana Oval Ground in Malaysia.

In the finals which was restricted to five overs a side (due to rain) Windies CA team taking first lease of the crease scored 86/1 off 5 overs with skipper Rahaman making a top score of 54 and then bowled out the opponents for 42 runs. Windies CA on their way to the finals beat RSC Malaysia by six wickets and then registered a seven wicket win over SNS Malaysia in the first round to enter the super six round. In the super six round they beat Mega Courts CA Australia by four wickets to qualify for the Platinum Championsh­ip final.

The four day T-20 cricket tournament saw teams from Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia and Singapore taking part.

Former national captain of Malaysia Suresh Nawarathna­m graced the awards ceremony as the chief guest while Z.rana-vice President of RSC Malaysia was the guest of honour.
