SLID urges need for credible information flow for biz to operate safely
The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) yesterday condemned the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks and the recent mob attacks that aimed at the country’s Muslim community.
The institution also urged the government to ensure a coordinated and credible information flow and the re-establishment of law and order for businesses and livelihoods to function in a safe environment.
“The SLID recognises the immediate need to resume livelihoods for many of our countrymen and for business to return to normal,” a SLID statement said.
The SLID also expressed grave concern regarding the lack of a coordinated situation report permitting the resumption of business as usual within the country and urged the government to respond to the requirements identified in the letter sent by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, on May 2, 2019.
The sentiments expressed by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce that “the public needs a simple credible way to understand the security situation in the country at a given time, which gives the sufficient information to make decisions about their personal safety” have become even more urgent now, almost two weeks later.
Whilst expressing its deepest appreciation for the extraordinary services rendered by the tri-forces and police in containing threats within Sri Lanka, the SLID urged all politicians to ensure their supporters understand the importance of an inclusive stable normalcy for the future of Sri Lanka.
