An appeal for Alms Givings for our shelters this Vesak

-

“When a man has pity on all living creatures then only is he noble” – Lord Gautama Buddha.

The Animal Welfare and Protection Association (AWPA) established over almost fifty four years ago, at present houses over 450 stray dogs and cats. They are provided with shelter, food, veterinary care and love. The inmates appreciate the love they receive and that can be seen by the way they wag their tails and jump at you for affection.

Vesak is a month where Buddhists all over the world reach out to give alms to those in need of caring and a place to call home. Vesak is a time for us to come together to love and be thankful for our blessings. This year, please take time to think of the gentle, loving animals that bring joy to our lives and give us their unconditional love.

Our voiceless friends who reside in our shelters in Dehiwala and Kahathuduwa are those who have found their way to us due to abandonment, injury, being blind etc. We have offered them a safe haven away from an uncertain environment.

On the auspicious occasion of Vesak, we appeal to you to please give alms generously to our four legged friends. According to the Lord Buddha, the ideal conditions of giving are to give a pure gift, with pure intentions, to a pure recipient. They cannot ask for themselves, but their suffering is real and their needs are many. Every donation, whether large or small, is most appreciated. You can send in your donations directly to the AWPA account.
