Shop owner nabbed with imported fags

A shop keeper had been arrested with a stock of illegally imported cigarettes, the Bogawantalawa Police said.

However, he was released on Police bail. They said that the suspect had not paid proper Custom duty for the imported cigarettes.

The Bogawantalawa Police seized 20 cartons of cigarettes packs hidden in the shop on a tip-off from the general Public.

They said that the businessman had claimed that the cigarette cartons were sold to him as produced in Sri Lanka and there were 400 cigarettes in 20 packets.

OIC of Bogawantalawa Police Shantha Bandara said that legal action would be instituted against the suspect in the Hatton Magistrate’s Court.
