Only two routes allowed to reach Horton Plains

Balangoda-nonpareil Estate route, Lindula- Agarapatha­na -Dayagama routes closed for tourists

Tourists who violated regulation­s and used unauthoris­ed routes to reach Horton Plains would be liable to prosecutio­n, the Wildlife Conservati­on Department has warned.

Park Warden P.K.P.M. Pradeep Kumara said the road from Balangoda through Nonpareil Estate and from Lindula through Agarapatha­na and Dayagama routes had been closed for the general public and tourists.

He said only the Nuwara Eliya through Black Pool and the other through Haputale and Ohiya routes were allowed to be used.

He requested tourists not to enter the Horton Plains through the forbidden routes.

The Park Warden said any foreign or the local tourist, who used a forbidden route, would be arrested and produced in Court.

He said any such individual­s would be liable to heavy fines.

He requested the tour guides to strictly adhere to this warning and create awareness in this regard among the tourists.
