Foundation laid for 75-foot Buddha statue in Ampara
Laying of the foundation stone for the proposed Samadhi Buddha Statue at the historic Buddhangala Monastery in Ampara took place yesterday by Chief Incumbent of the monastery Ven. Deeghavapiye Susima Thera.
The proposed 75ft tall statue, costing Rs. 20 million, will be located on a rock about 232ft about the mean sea level.
Ampara Govt. Agent D.M.L. Bandaranayake, Commander of the 24the Brigade, Major. Gen. Mahinda Mudalige, DIG Ayesha Karunaratne, and SP Samantha Wijesekara were present on the occasion.
