SEND CHILDREN TO SCHOOL WITHOUT FEAR

Asserting that the national security situation had been strengthened, Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake requested parents to send their children to school from today onwards.

He said though special security measures had been taken at schools in view of the mid-term, most parents did not send their children due to various rumours. He said providing security to schools was the priority of the police and the tri-forces.

“All steps have been taken to provide security to schools.

Therefore, I request parents to send their children to school without any fear. Following the terror attacks,violent incidents were reported in several areas across the country. But the police and the military took action to arrest those who were responsible for those incidents and bring the situation under control,”he said.

He said a special joint military programme had been launched by the police and the tri-forces to prevent the repetition of such heinous acts of violence.

“Due to the terror attacks, the day-to-day lives of people crippled. This resulted in the disruption of activities in both State and private institutions. However, the police and the tri-forces took every possible action to ensure national security. Within a short spell of time following the terror attacks, the President vested all powers with the military to protect the general public and to eradicate terrorism in all its manifestations.
