Let’s forge ahead as usual - Speaker

The same way we celebrated Vesak

-

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya appealed to the public to freely engage in their day-to-day activities once again, the same way they had celebrated the Vesak festival without paying much attention to rumours.

Sending a special message the Speaker requested the public to engage in their daily activities freely like sending children to school as usual.

The message states that ninetyfive percent of those behind the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks have been destroyed or taken into custody as confirmed by the security forces and it also says this message is issued on behalf of the majority of the Parliament Supervision Committee members.

“The people of the country have now realised that all the rumours spread since the day of the attacks on Easter Sunday, April 21 till the dawn of Vesak Poya and about the presence of some destructive forces behind these incidents are baseless.

The destroying of properties and harassing the innocent Muslim people is also an extent of this destructive violent process. The disgrace brought upon the dignity of all the citizens specially Buddhists are extensive than the loss caused to the properties”.

However, we are pleased to see the manner in the peoples’ interest in celebrating Vesak calmly and peacefully and hope they will continue in the same state in their day-to-day work as usual and engage children in their studies in schools.

The unity shown by the Christians, Catholics and Muslims in celebrating Vesak with the Buddhists forgetting all ugly recent incidents is a special feature of this Vesak and it will help to achieve a prosperous and peaceful environment.

Let us not allow any vicious force to breach this brotherhood of commitment, respect and trust among us. It is time to think whether anyone who loves the country and their children can listen to or follow the extremist and traitor organisations.
