Insult to injury

-

The country is aware that the April 21 disaster happened when it could have been well prevented. Innocent men, women and children lost their lives and limbs. We see Christian Affairs Minister John Amrathunga inviting the kith and kin of the dead and the injured victims to come to one point to distribute cheques as compensation.

And these injured persons come on crutches, walkers and wheel-chairs helped and assisted by grieving helpless family members.

Thanks to the media, we saw how a gentleman in rage expressing his disgust over the Minister’s action and unrealistic delay.

Couldn’t this Minister go to their houses concerned and apologize for the failure to pass the information to the general public and hand over the cheques personally to these injured persons who are still in pain?

This is a clear example as to how politicians are making every effort to fish even in troubled waters. Shame!
