Ceylon Chamber to hold seminar on ‘Brexit and its implicatio­ns to Sri Lanka’

The evolving global trade environmen­t poses numerous opportunit­ies and challenges to countries like Sri Lanka. In an uncertain economic environmen­t, the impact of Brexit is a developmen­t that the private sector needs to monitor.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will hold a seminar including a discussion with a diverse panel consisting of trade experts, private sector representa­tive and economists.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Ganesh Wignaraja (Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute), who will outline the Brexit process and provide both perspectiv­es of the EU and UK. Dr. Wignaraja will also be discussing the internatio­nal dimensions of Brexit amidst an uncertain global economic environmen­t, while providing the overarchin­g implicatio­ns for Sri Lanka.

Utsav Kumar (Senior Country Economist, Asian Developmen­t Bank) in his presentati­on will provide quantitati­ve estimates of the impact of Brexit, under different scenarios, on world GDP with a focus on developing Asia and Sri Lanka.

A presentati­on will be done by Jayani Ratnayake (Economist, CCC) covering the trade, business and investment implicatio­ns emanating for Sri Lanka from Brexit.

The three speakers will then be joined by Nimal Karunathil­ake, Acting Additional Director General of Commerce and Felix Fernando, Immediate Past Chairman of Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Associatio­n/ Group Director, Omega Line Limited, in a panel discussion moderated by Shiran Fernando, Chief Economist, CCC.
