Conference - ‘Biodiversity and Human conflict: A Fragile Equilibrium’
On the occasion of the International Day for Biological
Diversity 2019, the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka in cooperation with Biodiversity Sri Lanka and Hatton National Bank will organise an event to address the issue of biodiversity loss, and to raise awareness on the conflict between biodiversity and humans on Thursday, 23 rd May 2019, at 3:30 pm at HNB Towers (22nd Floor Auditorium, 479, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10).
Two renowned researchers will address the conference: Dr B. R. Ramesh, affiliated researcher at the French Institute of Pondicherry, India. His presentation will focus on ‘Ecological information system for biodiversity management’. Dr Prithiviraj Fernando, Chairman, of the Centre for Conservation and Research, Sri Lanka. His presentation will address ‘Elephant conservation and Human-elephant conflict mitigation’. The fight against biodiversity loss is a global issue. France wishes to be a global leader in this field and make it a top priority in European and international agendas. Nature is declining globally at rates unprecedented in human history, with grave impacts on people, warns a report from the Intergovernmental Science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the summary of which was approved in Paris on May 4th.
