Conference - ‘Biodiversi­ty and Human conflict: A Fragile Equilibriu­m’

On the occasion of the Internatio­nal Day for Biological

Diversity 2019, the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka in cooperatio­n with Biodiversi­ty Sri Lanka and Hatton National Bank will organise an event to address the issue of biodiversi­ty loss, and to raise awareness on the conflict between biodiversi­ty and humans on Thursday, 23 rd May 2019, at 3:30 pm at HNB Towers (22nd Floor Auditorium, 479, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10).

Two renowned researcher­s will address the conference: Dr B. R. Ramesh, affiliated researcher at the French Institute of Pondicherr­y, India. His presentati­on will focus on ‘Ecological informatio­n system for biodiversi­ty management’. Dr Prithivira­j Fernando, Chairman, of the Centre for Conservati­on and Research, Sri Lanka. His presentati­on will address ‘Elephant conservati­on and Human-elephant conflict mitigation’. The fight against biodiversi­ty loss is a global issue. France wishes to be a global leader in this field and make it a top priority in European and internatio­nal agendas. Nature is declining globally at rates unpreceden­ted in human history, with grave impacts on people, warns a report from the Intergover­nmental Science-policy Platform on Biodiversi­ty and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the summary of which was approved in Paris on May 4th. The event is open for all, only on registrati­on and subject to availabili­ty.
