“ETHNIC DIVERSITY IN STUDENT ADMISSIONS”
Following the decision to take all Madrasas under the purview of the Education Ministry, the government has decided to change the composition of schools to admit students from all ethnic groups, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said yesterday.
Addressing a media briefing, he
said during the past five years the government did not start any school dedicated to a particular religion or ethnic group. “Considering the recent incidents that unfolded in the country, the government will admit students from different ethnic groups to schools which will be newly constructed. The government has decided to take all Madrasas under regulations set by the National Institute of Education,” he said.
