Stock of il­licit tim­ber seized in tran­sit

A large stock of il­licit tim­ber in­clud­ing satin wood was seized in tran­sit and two suspects ar­rested by Panadura Traf­fic Di­vi­sion dur­ing a raid at Mul­la­gas junc­tion in Ho­rana.

When the po­lice gave chase and seized the sus­pi­cious lorry, the suspects had told the po­lice of­fi­cers that the lorry was trans­port­ing a stock of empty bottles to a soft drink fac­tory in Kaduwela. How­ever the po­lice had re­moved a stock of soft drink bottles in more than 40 boxes to dis­cover the tim­ber cov­ered with a rex­ine sheet. The suspects were to be pro­duced be­fore the Ho­rana Mag­is­trate last morn­ing.

Sergeant 27195 Ranas­inghe, and PC 41114 Balasuriya had car­ried out the raid and seized the stock of il­licit tim­ber. OIC Panadura Traf­fic Di­vi­sion IP Prasanna We­dis­inghe is con­duct­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
