Defence Ministry clarifies
Following statement was sent by the media unit of Defence Ministry. A supplementary Budget of Rs.190 million for two bullet proof vehicles for the President as the Minister of Defence and the newly appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, has been passed by the Parliament recently. The Ministry of Defence strongly denounces the baseless allegations related to it.
It is emphasised that neither the President nor the newly appointed Secretary requested any supplementary budget at this critical moment, and the aforesaid supplementary budget of Rs. 190 million for vehicles, has been forwarded to the Parliament a year ago on considering the requirement of vehicles for the Ministry of Defence. It is a request made a year ago, that has been passed by the parliament last week.the Ministry of Defence denounces with disgust, the false propaganda through various web sites and newspapers without ascertaining the truth of the news.
Gen. Shantha Kottegoda (Rtd), the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence while expressing his disappointment, declared that he is not a narrow minded person to leave the National objectives and National Security aside at a time of a National crisis like this. Condemning the false propaganda, he further said that he understands the difficulties of people well and he always stands with them on any arduous situation.
