Six coaches appointed for three Internatio­nal VB Competitio­ns

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) has selected six senior coaches for the South Asian Games and Asian Volleyball Championsh­ips this year.

The South Asian Games (SAG) will be from December 1 to 10 in Kathmandu, Nepal and the Asian Senior Volleyball Championsh­ips (Men’s and Women’s) will be held in Iran and South Korea. Targeting the three events a national pool has been formed and they are currently training at the Torrington Indoor Stadium, Colombo. There are 24 men and 24 women in each pool.

Sri Lanka will participat­e first in the 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championsh­ips to be held from August 17 to 25 in South Korea where 15 countries will take part. After that there will be the 20th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championsh­ips in Tehran, Iran from September 13 to 21 where 16 countries will participat­e.

Further Sri Lanka would participat­e in the South Asian Games where eight countries will participat­e. Targeting the above three events two foreign coaches from Cuba have been contracted to assist Sri Lanka and the players are training under them.

The Women’s pool head coach is Roberto Cepero (from Cuba) the Assistant Coach is Janaka Indrajith and the Trainer Amila Sampath. The men’s pool is training under Head Coach Manuel Torres (from Cuba), Assistant Coach Saman Chandranat­h and Trainer Susiri Mangala Perera.
