A perfectly organised Fridge…

-

Amother-of-two has shared a glimpse inside her perfectly organised fridge, showing each shelf brimming with fresh ingredients to cook her daily meals. Stephanie

Pase, from Sydney, wanted to have an immaculate system in place, including perfectly labelled containers, and a ‘use me first’ shelf to avoid food wastage.

The 28-year-old, who runs Just Another

Mummy Blog, revealed her tips to help you organise your fridge to perfection - and keep its contents fresher for longer.

‘Without a good system in place, you will be surprised how much food can be wasted. We all know the scenario of food being shoved to the back and forgotten, or when you accidentally purchase items you already have,’ Stephanie said on her blog.

‘With this system, we know exactly what goes where so when it comes to meal planning and everyday snacks nothing gets wasted.’

Labels

Stephanie - who documents her family life on Instagram - said having labels on storage containers, plastic tubs and drawers has helped her to easily prepare freshlymade meals for her family.

‘Having labels has helped our home run more smoothly, especially in the fridge. When applying labels on fridge doors make sure the surface is clean and dry,’ she said.

Condiments

Stephanie said the trick to organising condiments neatly on shelves - whether it’s in the pantry or fridge, is by using a humble ‘lazy Susan’.

‘This allows easy access without having to move anything around. I used the clear $7 Kmart one for our fridge,’ she said.

For pre-chopped fruits and vegetables, she stores them into OXO Greensaver Produce Keeper Container, retailed at $39, as it keeps produce fresher for longer.

On the second shelf, she usually keeps other vegetables in $5 glass containers and any pre-made foods in a $5 long clear tub from Kmart.

Meat & Dairy

Stephanie said she has $4 Kmart tubs allocated separately for meat and dairy products.‘mostly all meats for dinners that week are in there. Some nights the kids eat differently to us so I plan and portion out meat for the kids’ dinners into seal bags,’ she said. ‘There is another tub (from Kmart for $4) allocated for any dairy which for us is usually just cheese and yoghurt.’ She stores her children’s snacks in a tub with handles from Kmart for $8, which usually includes fruits and yoghurts.

‘The next handled tub is for our lunches. So this way every morning Ryan [husband] knows exactly what to take to work, and I prep my lunches ahead of time,’ she said.‘the handled tubs originally come with lids but I don’t use them for easier access to the food.’

Door

Stephanie said on her door, she has a designated shelf for ‘use me first’ products.

‘I decided to create a door shelf specifically for products to use first,’ she said.‘i did this because there have been so many times where I would go and open a new kids yoghurt or packet, and then realise there was one already open.

‘This has helped reduce a lot of waste. We put any items that need to be used before others after they have been opened such as deli meats, kids yoghurts and sauces.’other items she includes in her door are drinks, supplements such as medications or probiotics, fresh herbs and miscellaneous.
