Over Rs.200mn for victims of Easter Sunday attacks

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society conducted a comprehens­ive assessment aftermath of the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks in all three affected districts. The Red Cross teams visited victims’ houses and gathered necessary informatio­n with the aim of supporting them to recover from this tragedy. Paper advertisem­ents were also published in all three languages (Sinhala/tamil/english) in view to collect informatio­n of the victims. Informatio­n was also gathered with the support of other sources such as the Ministries of Public Administra­tion, Defence and Disaster Management.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society will address short and long term needs of the people affected. It will cover areas such as Livelihood, Educationa­l support, Unconditio­nal cash grants and psycho-social support. The SLRCS has allocated Rs.10 million to restart their livelihood.

100 families will receive Rs.100,000 each under this livelihood grant. 200 children affected due to this attack will receive Rs. 60,000 per year to continue their education. Moreover, an educationa­l scholarshi­p fund will be setup to provide continuous educationa­l support until they complete their education. Another Rs.8 million is to be allocated to provide psycho-social support which is identified as another key area that needs support.

Considerin­g the current situation of the country, Rs.17 million is allocated in order to promote social cohesion. As a short term relief, 300 affected families will receive a sum of Rs. 30,000 as unconditio­nal cash grant.
