Development drive to upgrade SLTDA resorts

-

Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga inspected the ongoing development work at the National Holiday Resort in Bentota, recently.

The Bentota resort, which operates under the purview of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), has a land extent of approximately 100 acres and is strategically situated between the Bentota river and golden beach.

Bentota is the oldest resort property under the SLTDA and is the location for many starclass hotels and restaurants. The SLTDA also operates a holiday bungalow on the resort property.

The new development drive initiated by the Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Ministry will give a facelift to the area and provide the much-needed facilities for tourists.

Amaratunga stated that the purpose of the development drive is to upgrade the SLTDA resorts to world-class standards. He also took time to visit some of the hotels and small establishments that have been affected by the drop in tourist arrivals. The minister explained in detail the proposed relief package that would be made available to the industry.

The Bentota National Holiday Resort redevelopment work is expected to be completed in a few weeks. The SLTDA operates similar resorts in Giritale, Passikudah, Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela, where it is responsible for infrastructure development and maintenance of the resort areas.
