Tri-services ration and other allowances increased

The ration and other allowances paid to all officers and other ranks in the Tri-services will be increased from July 1, the Ministry of Finance said.

The Commando Allowance, Uniform Allowance, Rent Allowance, Good Conduct Allowance of the Armed Forces, where some have not been increased for over 20-years, will be increased from July 1.

The allowances had been increased as per a budgetary proposal made by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweer­a.

“The monthly Ration Allowance paid to officers of the Tri-forces has been increased up to Rs. 23,231 and of the other ranks up to Rs. 19,350 with retrospect­ive effect from January 2019,” statement stressed. “The General Treasury granted its approval for the increase of the Ration Allowance last week following the calculatio­n made by the Census and Statistica­l Department on the list of goods included in the ration by the Sri Lanka Army,” it said.

“Moreover, the Rental Allowance paid to all Tri-services Personnel will be increased by 100 per cent from July 1. The Commando Allowance, which is applicable to equal ranks in the Sri Lanka Navy and the Air Force, will be increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 per month. The Good Conduct Allowance and the Uniform Allowance will also be increased from 01 July. The circular indicating the Treasury approval for the above increases was issued on Tuesday,” the release added. (LP)
