Fined for killing pangolin
Two poachers who had killed a pangolin in a state forest in the Kataragama Wildlife Range were fined Rs.40,000 each by Tissamaharama District Judge and Magistrate Kanchanamala Susantha Gunasekara. Wildlife Conservators told police that the meat of the pangolin was being cooked in the houses of the suspects when they carried out the raid. The suspects were fined when they pleaded guilty of the charges.
The suspects promised to refrain from hunting and requested the officials not to reveal their names to the media to save their children from any disrepute.
Range Forest Conservators H.R.K. Kumara, A.M.S. Gamini, Wildlife Guards Yapa Bandara, H. Anasdeen, Range Asst. K.P.K. Karunaratne, Field Assts. Y.m.indrawansa, K.p.shantha, K.s.ratnasinghe, and Suranga Anuradha carried out the raid.
