South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 87 runs in their 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup first warmup match played at the Cardiff Wales Stadium in Cardiff yesterday
Sri Lanka who were set a tough victory target of 338 runs made a determined effort before they succumbed to 251 in 42.3 overs.
Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne once again impressed with a top score of 87 from 92 balls inclusive of 12 boundaries.
However, the Sri Lankan middle order failed to deliver the
goods despite a fighting 66 from former Skipper Angelo Mathews who was seventh out after having hoisted one six and struck six boundaries.
Earlier, South Africa rallied around magnificently to pile up a formidable 338 for seven wickets from their 50 overs aftertheywereputintobat.
The South Africa openers Hashim Amla and Aiden Markram provided a flying start to the innings while putting on 47 runs in 6.2 overs.
Amla went on to hit a solid 65 from 61 deliveries inclusive of nine boundaries.
Skipper Francois Du Plessis joined Amla and the pair further consolidated their position while adding 128 for second wicket.
In fact, Du Plessis went on to hit a top score of 88 from 69 balls with the help of four sixesandsevenboundaries.
Dwaine Pretorius and Chris Morris added the finishing touches to the South Africa innings in style with an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 52 runs. (Agencies)
