DOCTOR ARRESTED IN KURUNEGALA, HANDED OVER TO CID

Investigation would be conducted whether the doctor has connection with the National Thawheed Jama’ath organization

Segu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shafi, a doctor attached to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, who was arrested for earning assets in suspicious manner, was handed over to the CID, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

The 42-year-old doctor, a resident of Kurunegala was arrested by the Kurunegala Police on Friday night over assets earned through suspicious means and other allegations. It was reported that investigation are being conducted over high value properties belonging to the suspect doctor in Kurunegala and several other areas and his bank accounts.

Sources said that investigation would be conducted whether the doctor has connection with the National Thawheed Jama’ath organization.

Doctor arrested over suspicious assets May 26, 2019: Director of Kurunegala Hospital Dr. Sarathweera Bandara said a special investigation has been launched into the allegation that he has performed unconsented sterilizations of women. The arrested doctor is a member of All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) and had contested the General Election in 2015 from the Kurunegala District under the UNP. May 25, 2019: Seigu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shafi, a doctor attached to the Kurunegala Hospital was arrested for earning assets in suspicious manner.
