Clause 129 is not a suspicion Clause and should not be suspected
With regard to the extension of the tenure of the President, Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera has requested the Attorney General Dappula De Livera not to support it by providing arguments in the presence of the Court or giving instructions to check the opinion of the Supreme Court.
The Thera in his letter has stated that according to his knowledge it has been scheduled to check the opinion of the Supreme Court with regard to Clause 129 in the Constitution.
The Thera says, it is very clear that Clause 129 is not a suspicion Clause and should not be suspected. Its interpretation is very clear and if it is going to be interpreted, it will be treated as misuse.
The letter also states, a unanimous verdict has already been given by a five member bench in this regard.
It is useless if the action is taken to check again about this and it will be a bad precedent and waste of valuable time of the Supreme
Court as well.
