Bag of hand grenades: Suspect detained for 72 hrs

A suspect taken into custody in connection with the cache of hand grenades recovered from Dickhena Junior School in Baduraliya was produced before the Matugama Magistrate and handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for further questioning for 72 hours under detention order.

A bag containing 13 hand grenades and a bottle filled with many rounds of ammunition connected to a wire cord was recovered by Police from the Dickhena Junior School playground on Thursday night (23). During investigations, the Police received information leading to the arrest of the suspect Pavithra Madusanka Hapuarachchi (32) of Hedigalla, Baduraliya. The Magistrate ordered the Police to produce the suspect after questioning and postponed the case to June 21.
