- BY M. THAMILCHELVAN

It is our duty as Tamils to help those who have become destitute as we cannot forget the fact that when we were displaced in the past and went to many countries, we were given refugee status by those countries

We will support and take care of those who had taken refuge in our country, National Christian Council for Justice and Peace - Kilinochchi District said.

Christian Council for Justice and Peace - Kilinochchi District said in a communiqué issued in that context that following the tense situation in the country the refugees from Pakistan and Afghanistan were evicted from the houses where they were housed and thereafter they had taken refuge in Negombo Police Station, various mosques and churches.

“We welcome the 35 people among them who had been kept in the Vavuniya Poonthottam camp amidst various controversies. However, we are disheartened to note various protests that had been launched to oppose it. It is our duty as Tamils to help those who have become destitute as we cannot forget the fact that when we were displaced in the past and went to many countries, we were given refugee status by those countries.as such,we wish to rally round to support them and the government, non-governmental organisations and the organisations working towards the well-being of these refugees and should show concern to them.” it was said in the communiqué.

“Under these circumstances, we wish to commend those kind people with humanity in Jaffna who volunteered to take care of them by accommodating them in their own houses,” Christian Council for Justice and Peace Kilinochchi District further said.
