Four young men nabbed for trying to enter Kotmale Dam Road

A group of four young men riding motorcycle­s and attempted to enter the Kotmale Reservoir Dam had been arrested by the Army.

The suspects were residents of Illawatura in Gampola, according to the Police.

When the Army questioned them they had fled from the scene but the soldiers gave chase and arrested them.

One of the young men had fallen off the motorcycle and sustained injuries. The four young men, who were found to be Muslim, were handed over to Nawalapiti­ya Police for further action.

They were produced before Nawalapiti­ya Actg. Magistrate Nayananand­a Aluthgamag­e and remanded till May 29.

The Police told the court that the movement of vehicles along the Kotmale Dam had been prohibited in view of the prevailing security situation and that the Police and the security forces were guarding it.

They stated that the suspects were not in possession of driving licences or other relevant documents of their motorcycle­s.

Actg. Magistrate granted the request of the Police for permission to obtain reports of telephone conservati­ons of the suspects.

He ordered Police to admit the injured suspect to hospital under custody.
