CA is­sues no­tice re­turn­able for June 21

Com­plaint states the civil rights ac­tivist had made defam­a­tory re­marks against ju­di­ciary on sev­eral oc­ca­sions

The Court of Ap­peal (CA) yes­ter­day is­sued no­tice re­turn­able for June 21 on civil rights ac­tivist Pro­fes­sor Sarath Wi­jesuriya over con­tempt of court. The bench com­prised Jus­tices Deepali Wi­je­sun­dara and Achala Wen­gap­pulli.

The com­plaint filed by At­tor­ney Sam­path Va­jira Ku­mara and Re­tired Army Of­fi­cer Anil Was­an­tha Al­wis states Prof. Wi­jesuriya had pur­port­edly made defam­a­tory re­marks against the ju­di­ciary on sev­eral oc­ca­sions in­clud­ing on so­cial me­dia.

Pres­i­dent’s Coun­sel San­jeewa Jayawar­dena in­structed by Ravin­dranath Dabare ap­peared for the com­plainants.
