DOCTOR ACCUSED

May 24, 2019: The 42-year-old Dr. Siyabdeen Mohammed Safi was arrested by officers of the Kurunegala Police for amassing huge sums of wealth and assets in a time. It was widely reported that the doctor had effected more than 8,000 Caesarean operations and had also performed LRT without their consent at the Kurunegala hospital. May 27, 2019: Over 10 complaints received from women on whom Dr. Siyabdeen, a gynaecologist from the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital had performed Ligation and Resection of Tubes (LRT) operation without their consent, the Crime Division of the Kurunegala Police confirmed that. The specialist is a resident of Kurunegala and had contested under elections on the ticket of a leading political party for the Kurunegala district.
