Boatyard on Rotala Wela bank gutted by fire
A boatyard on the Rotala Wela bank of Mahaweli River in Girandurukotte had been set on fire by an unidentified individual or group destroying six boats on Sunday night.
The boats used for sand mining purposes in the Mahaweli River in the Rotala Wela area were found by its owners, to have been completely gutted by fire, when they came to the river site yesterday morning.
The incident had been complained to the
Girandurukotte Police and an inquiry was underway.
The cost of the damage was not ascertained yet and the act of arson was suspected to have been carried out over an unsettled dispute.
