Accused sentenced to 45 years RI

Indicted with rape of step-daughter

An accused who stood indicted with the rape of his 14-yearold step daughter was found guilty under three counts and sentenced to 15 year rigorous imprisonme­nt for each count amounting to an aggregate of 45 years by Galle High Court Judge W.P.S. Nissanka.

The sentence was to be served concurrent­ly in 15 years. He was fined Rs.15,000 in addition to the imprisonme­nt and sentenced to further nine month imprisonme­nt in default of the fine. The accused Imaduwa Vithange Chandrapal­a of Gallanda in Udugama had on February 01, 2008 raped the daughter of his wife’s first marriage. He was 55 years of age at the time of the incident.

Prosecutio­n told court that the accused with his wife and her daughter had been living under one roof and that his wife was suffering was from a mental disorder.
