Accused sentenced to 45 years RI

Indicted with rape of step-daughter

An accused who stood indicted with the rape of his 14-yearold step daughter was found guilty under three counts and sentenced to 15 year rigorous imprisonment for each count amounting to an aggregate of 45 years by Galle High Court Judge W.P.S. Nissanka.

The sentence was to be served concurrently in 15 years. He was fined Rs.15,000 in addition to the imprisonment and sentenced to further nine month imprisonment in default of the fine. The accused Imaduwa Vithange Chandrapala of Gallanda in Udugama had on February 01, 2008 raped the daughter of his wife’s first marriage. He was 55 years of age at the time of the incident.

Prosecution told court that the accused with his wife and her daughter had been living under one roof and that his wife was suffering was from a mental disorder.
