Ditch the parties; they serve only themselves

- -WALTER FERNANDO

Uncertainty has befallen all of us in Sri Lanka, and some of us who have dear ones overseas are living in fear and frustration, not knowing the consequences.

We the 15 million voters, have got caught to the treacherous traps set up by the most unscrupulous politicians, this world has produced.

In some cases, extremists slogans, caste and creed and territorial claims have divided us.

It is the political divide and greed that have fractured the majority and it is inconceivable that this majority, who takes to the streets for various issues facing water cannons, tear gas and even bullets, have now disappeared from the front lines.

It appears to me, that the terrorist’s whose long-term plan in investing in dividing the majority has yielded satisfactory results.

We the 15 million voters, have got caught to the treacherous traps set up by the most unscrupulous politicians, this world has produced

We the lotus eaters, who are accustomed to free handouts have swallowed this lavish dead rope, we accepted a minority Government, a Government, that has no moral ethical and legal responsibility.

How could a country that inherited discipline and following the rule of law to its last letter have slipped so many steps in one shot, and remain in a state of wilderness?

Our plight is far more complicated than what it seems to be, the authorities cannot reveal the truth for fear that the opportunists will deepen our rifts.

Therefore, fellow citizens, the one and the only solution near at hand is the election.

Leave aside trivial reasons and let us encourage educated distinguished personalities to come forward individually and vote them in.

Do not trust any party. We must break up party politics, they are serving only themselves.

They are dividing themselves, one group is in the government and the other group is in Opposition. Mind you, from the same party. We the voters trust the party for whom we voted and expect them to serve us, but these individuals after entering Parliament are looking to enrich themselves and their parties.

We are in a delicate and serious situation, this is our last and only hope.

Let us go back to independent ‘ candidates that would be the best solution for this country.

Political parties are going on their agendas they are keen to strengthen their leaders.
