„Seek tax incentives from govt.

Sri Lanka’s exporters are eyeing to increase vegetable, fruit, seafood and industrial sector imports amid the major slowdown in tourism following the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

Exporters’ Association of Sri Lanka (EASL) said its membership expect to initiate discussions with the authorities for tax incentives in this regards.

“Towards this end, the committee felt that a tax incentive such as one based on incremental sales over the previous year would help in galvanising the export sector towards helping in greater foreign exchange inflows,” a brief EASL statement said.

EASL said at its committee meeting held recently, its members deliberated on the best course of action that both the government and the private sector could take to restore, rebuild, and recover from the impacts of the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Acknowledging the colossal impact the attacks have had on human life, livelihoods, and the economy, the EASL said it was committed to do their part to help Sri Lanka recover.
