CHALLENGING TO WEAR BUT WORTH IT, ORANGE REALLY IS THE NEW BLACK!

- By Minoli Ratnayake

YES, IT’S A PRETTY IN-YOUR FACE COLOUR, BUT ORANGE, IN A VARIETY OF SHADES, SHOULD BE YOUR GO-TO HUE THIS SEASON. IT WORKS WELL WITH MOST SKIN TONES BUT ESPECIALLY DARKER OR TANNED ONES. ORANGE IS THE NEW POWER COLOUR. THE HUE IS POPPING UP IN ALL SHADES FROM TANGERINE AND SHERBERT TO BRIGHT, PUNCHY HUES LIKE MANDARIN AND APRICOT. ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT HUES THAT IS HAVING ITS FASHION MOMENT, SEEN ON STYLE EDITORS, STREET STYLE STARS AND INSTA-STARS!

Admittedly, this isn't an easy colour to pull off. It requires a lot more styling sensibility than wearing uncomplicated hues of trusty black or simple grays. Of course, there's the risk of looking like you've drawn inspiration from a monk or you're celebrating Halloween!

I repeat, orange is not a colour for the faint hearted (as it can be a terrifying tone especially if not worn properly!!!). If you don't fall into that category, then orange is spot on if you're interested in keeping abreast of international seasonal trends. It has the confidence of red with the sharp acid of a yellow, more gutsy than a flouro shade and because it's one of nature's most violent colours it has sufficient appeal to our inner savage. It's always been a fashion pack staple, a go to colour throughout the years to brighten up a wardrobe. If you don't

want to do all orange, you can tame it and temper the shade with a contrasting rich colour. White, a dash of hot-pink, a tinge of metallics, elegant navy, or a hint of turquoise all work well.

If you're not really feeling the colour and the look is too bold for clothing, introduce orange as a lush accent via bags, shoes, lipstick or nails. You can still be on trend without committing

to it completely. Wearing the hue on your nails will give you an in-theknow cool edge. Whether worn in electric, attention-grabbing orange or a fluorescent neon pop or muted apricot and matte or even glossy, you can get a taste of the trend. The uniqueness of this colour is that it ranges from sophisticated to lively and fun.

Make sure you inject some orange into your wardrobe. The colour is making a serious mark on the runway. The best part about all of these orange hues popping up on the runway is that everyone can find a shade that works for their skin tone.

Orange you glad?
