All in­ves­ti­ga­tion units op­er­ated un­der Se­nior DIG dis­solved

The spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion unit of the South­ern Prov­ince un­der the Se­nior DIG and all other spe­cial in­ves­tiga­tive units un­der his of­fi­cial name, had been dis­solved with im­me­di­ate ef­fect, stated the new Se­nior DIG of South­ern and Sabaraga­muwa Prov­inces Roshan Fer­nando yes­ter­day.

Th­ese units would be es­tab­lished only when a ne­ces­sity arises and such units would func­tion only un­der his di­rect su­per­vi­sion, he said fur­ther.

Roshan Fer­nando said fur­ther that he main­tained a spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion unit to curb the ac­tiv­i­ties of the AWA group in Jaffna and other than that he has no in­ten­tion up to now in es­tab­lish­ing such a unit in South­ern or Sabaraga­muwa Prov­inces. He said that all of­fi­cers who were at­tached to the in­ves­ti­ga­tion units had been posted to po­lice sta­tions af­ter the dis­so­lu­tion.

Mean­while the OIC and fif­teen po­lice of­fi­cers who were at­tached to the Spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion unit of South­ern and Sabaraga­muwa Prov­inces that func­tioned un­der the for­mer Se­nior DIG Ravi Wi­je­w­ar­dene, are be­ing held un­der re­mand cus­tody un­til June 10th in con­nec­tion with the dou­ble mur­der in Rathgama.
