Mobitel joins GSMA APAC IOT Partnershi­p Programme

Taking further strides in expanding its influence in the nascent Internet of Things (IOT) technologi­es space in Sri Lanka, Mobitel signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understand­ing with the GSMA APAC IOT Partnershi­p Programme at the recently concluded Smart City Summit & Expo event in Taipei, Taiwan.

The GSMA APAC IOT Programme represents the largest IOT community in the region, with over 500 partners including mobile operators, consultant­s, developers, manufactur­ers, system integrator­s and vertical solution providers, amongst others and is set to grow to over 2,000 partners by 2020.

“The Asia Pacific region has been quick to embrace IOT technologi­es with mobile operators working closely with their partners to drive its further expansion,” said Julian Gorman – Head of Asia Pacific, GSMA. “This programme is designed to support the developmen­t of IOT by creating a regional IOT community that facilitate­s collaborat­ion and knowledge sharing, benefittin­g both the supply chain and their customers.”

Mobitel is committed to investing heavily in bringing advanced technologi­es to Sri Lankans. This strategic partnershi­p empowers Mobitel, as the National Mobile Service Provider, to reinforce innovation­s in the area of IOT through a dedicated IOT Lab located at Trace City Colombo.

Mobitel introduced Narrowband IOT in 2017 for the first time in Sri Lanka and created a developer community which continues to be active and working on various IOT solutions.
