One killed, five injured as Vavuniya bound van crashes on to wall

One passenger had been killed and five others were injured when their van, heading to Vavuniya veered off the road and crashed onto a wayside concrete wall at Mahagahawewa last morning, the Police said.

The van was transporting the passengers from Colombo to Vavuniya.

The injured were admitted to Nochchiyagama Hospital and transferred in critical condition to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

They had told the Police that they were on their way back from Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake after seeing off a relative, when they met with the accident.

Vijayakumar Dahushan (23), a resident of Vavuniya succumbed to his injuries on admission to Nochchiyagama Hospital.

The Police said the driver might have fallen asleep due to fatigue and lost control of the vehicle.the Rajangana Police are conducting investigations.
