Couple robbed at Katukurunda beach, one arrested

One of the robbers who had threatened a young couple who were on a visit to the Katukurunda beach in Kalutara and robbed them of their cash and jewellery was arrested by Kalutara South Police about three days after the incident.

The young man had accidentally noticed the suspect frequenting the town had informed police. He told police that he with his fiancée were having a stroll in the beach when the two men threatened them and took away his cash and his fiancée’s gold chain.

During investigations the police recovered the gold chain that had been pawned to a private pawning centre in Kalutara. A police team under HQI Kalutara South Police Akila Ranasinghe conducted investigations.
